Adulting: Our life in Sunsets? Enchiladas? Cups of tea?
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that I like to put up monthly quotations on my Instagram and Facebook page. And for the month of June, I found a really special one:
Age is irrelevant. Ask me how many sunsets I’ve seen, hearts I’ve loved, trips I’ve taken, or concerts I’ve been to. That’s how old I am. (JOELLE)
I just adore the creativity of the author. By adding up the special moments in life, NOT the days, we can see life take on a new sense of meaning. And I think typically, we desire more of the things we love. So instead of moaning about our age, let’s celebrate the moments that are piled around us as a result of it.
I think we will find that we truly are rich.
One of my friends responded to my posted quotation with her own addition: Do you want to know how old I am? Then ask me…. How many oceans and seas I’ve dived into!
And that got me thinking. How can I personalize the quote for me?
Do you want to know how old I am? Then ask me….
How many cups of tea I’ve sipped.
How many countries have my footprints.
How many cats I have a stroked.
How many songs have I danced with.
How many hugs I have been lovingly squished by.
How many enchiladas I have sunk my teeth into.
Honestly, I could keep going for quite some time. And I issue you a challenge to do the same. Join me and my friend in personalizing your own list, and revel in those moments once again.
Maya Angelou is well known for the following words: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Let’s take a moment to remember them.
